Sunita Bali Joins For People of Color, Inc.’s Board of Directors

For People of Color, Inc. (“FPOC”) is proud to announce that Ms. Sunita Bali, an attorney at Perkins Coie LLP, has joined its Board of Directors. She has broad experience in complex commercial litigation with a specific focus on business litigation. Sunita has worked on breach of contract, business tort, fraud and unfair competition cases. She also has experience in privacy and data security, employment and real estate litigation matters.

Sunita also has a strong commitment to pro bono work. She recently represented a client seeking relief under the Convention Against Torture, which included a merits hearing in Immigration Court. She represented For People of Color, Inc. in drafting an amicus brief to the California Supreme Court addressing privacy issues.

“Sunita is one of FPOC’s strongest supporters and is a wonderful addition to our team,” stated Anthony Solana, Jr., president and chairperson.

Sunita received her B.A. in Psychology & Sociology from Occidental College and her J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School. She served as a judicial extern for the Hon. Arthur L. Alarcón, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. During law school, Sunita served as the Co-President of the Black Law Students Association and Academic Retreat Coordinator for the Western Regional National Black Law Students Association.

MALDEF Excellence in Legal Service Award

In November 2009, Anthony Solana Jr. received the MALDEF Excellence in Legal Service Award for founding For People of Color, Inc., an advocacy organization which shares MALDEF’s belief in supporting the success of minority law students.

MALDEF celebrated its 35th Annual Los Angeles Awards Gala at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, honoring civil rights icons and trailblazers who have been critical partners in advancing the goals of the community and providing social justice for Latinos. More than a thousand advocates, elected officials, attorneys, corporate leaders and city officials were in attendance.

Leadership Award from Employment Roundtable

Anthony Solana, Jr., For People of Color, Inc.’s President & Chairperson, received the Employment Roundtable of Southern California’s Leadership Award during its 2011 Annual Conference. Each year the Employment Round Table presents Leadership Awards to recognize individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution or had a significant impact as a volunteer or an employee of a community-based organization, a labor organization, or in the private/public sector by supporting or furthering civil rights and/or advancing diversity in California.
